Medical Director - Physician - Perioperative

The Regional Peri-operative Medical Director for SSM Health's Wisconsin region is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the peri-operative medical operations and strategic initiatives of the WI ministry hospitals in collaboration with the peri-operative leadership team. This 0.25 FTE position works closely with the peri-op leadership team to ensure efficient and high-quality perioperative services across multiple sites.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
Medical Executive Committee (MEC) Leadership and collaboration:
- Supports the Associate Peri-op Medical Director in conducting four quarterly meetings and addressing ongoing issues related to policies, bylaws, and Joint Commission standards.
- Provide oversight for the ASC Quality Improvement and Peer Review Committee, stepping in as needed.
Credentialing and Privileges Management:
- Assists the Associate Peri-op medical director with credentialing for the ASC, handling monthly new provider appointments, reappointments, and temporary privileges.
Operational Oversight:
- Act as a double dyad partner to the associate Perioperative Director, helping oversee operations at WI ministries, SCC, DHC, SP, Procedure Suites, and any new surgical centers built by SSM in the WI region.
- Attend dyad meetings for these sites.
- Conduct on-site visits, as needed, to review performance boards and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Address and resolve issues that arise at ASCs, such as COVID-19 challenges, staffing concerns, and EPIC system issues.
Efficiency and Accountability:
- Monitor and review First Case On-Time Starts (FCOTS), sending emails to surgeons with late starts.
- Oversee block utilization and other perioperative efficiency metrics at the ASCs.
- Leads the Block Utilization Committee (BUC), providing input and recommendations, and oversight
- Responsible for appropriate KPI metrics, operational metrics, and quality metrics in collaboration with other regional CP leaders and administration
Governance and Strategy:
- Represent the Wisconsin region at System perioperative governance meetings.
- Collaborate with perioperative leadership team to help with market strategy involving coordination of ASCs and hospitals.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in a relevant specialty.
- Wi License
- Experience in perioperative service and management is desired.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a dyad partnership and with multidisciplinary teams.
Work Environment:
- This position requires regular travel to various WI regional sites.
- The role involves both administrative and clinical responsibilities, necessitating flexibility and adaptability.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- Three years' experience as a practicing physician within SSM Health, with previous clinical leadership desired.
