Northwestern Medicine - Northwestern Medical Group has a unique opportunity for an experienced Primary Care Physician to join the team as the Medical Director of Primary Care Digital Innovation. The qualified individual will be expected to commit half of their time delivering against leadership goals and objectives, with the balance dedicated to providing quality patient care.

Role Description

  • Reports to President, Northwestern Health Network
  • Leads NM Primary Care’s digital strategy and implementation of related initiatives   
  • Represents NM Primary Care in systemwide discussions related to AI and new technologies
  • Develops and leads NM Primary Care AI Fellowship Program

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead Digital Innovation Strategy: Drive the development and implementation of NM Primary Care’s digital innovation strategy, focusing on the integration of AI and new technologies to enhance care delivery. The digital innovation strategy will be aligned to NM’s strategy and approved by Institute leadership.
  • Serve as Clinical Expert: Act as the clinical expert and physician liaison for digital innovations, ensuring effective integration with NM Primary Care operations.
  • Contribute to National Presence: Enhance NM’s national reputation in Primary Care digital innovation through participation in presentations, publications, and committee memberships.
  • Develop AI Fellowship Program: Oversee the creation and leadership of the NM Primary Care AI Fellowship program, cultivating the next generation of leaders in AI-driven healthcare.
  • Representation on Committees: Serve as the Primary Care representative on NM health system committees and projects related to AI, new technology, and digital innovation initiatives.
  • Partner with Innovation Subcommittee: Collaborate with the PCEC Innovation Subcommittee and other relevant groups to drive innovative initiatives and projects.
  • Collaborate with Leadership: Work with administration and leadership to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion of Institute deliverables.
  • Monitor Emerging Trends: Stay informed about emerging trends and technologies in AI and digital health, assessing their potential impact on Primary Care practices.
  • Training and Education Development: Create and implement training programs for clinical staff to enhance their understanding and utilization of digital tools and AI technologies.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 50% of total time commitment per week. This should include any time for meetings, follow-up, and communication
  • The remaining 50% will be spent on patient care

Accountability

The leader will be held accountable for the following milestones:

  • Timely completion of deliverables on budget
  • Development of an AI fellowship with launch in FY28 with two Fellows
  • Completion of a Primary Care AI and new technology roadmap, identifying 2-3 domains for technological innovation
  • Implementation of at least two new AI or technology tools by FY29
  • Maintain participation on at least one national committee, enhancing NM’s national reputation
