  • I am a Neuropsychiatrist AND Pain Medicine Specialist trained at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, under the mentorship of Wil Spradlin, MD, nationally known Psychiatrist & Neurologist. I am Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology, the American Board of Pain Medicine, & a Master Psychopharmacologist by NEI. Originally certified by the ABPN in 1995, I have been re-certified in 2004 and again in 2013; I was ABPN Board Certified with "Added Qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry" in 1999. I am a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, & I am in private medical practice focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of neuro-axis injuries and pain medicine. My clinical interests include interventional neuroscience, chronic neuromuscular pain, psychiatric comorbidities in chronic pain, neuro-psychopharmacology, & the use of ultrasonography in pain medicine & neuroscience. I have published 70+ articles in neuroscience areas, & I just completed my 7th book, entitled "Coping with Psychopaths," (Amazon/Kindle), which analyzes the role of socially adept psychopaths in law, medicine & business. Having developed interests & expertise in ultrasound guided interventional pain medicine & interventional neuroscience, I have completed post-doctoral training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and in Spinal Ultrasound by the Institute of Spinal Ultrasound Imaging. I am the senior author of CRC Press text, Practical Handbook of Psycho-pharmacology, and Co-Editor of The Handbook of Stress Medicine. I am on the Board of Editors of the journal, CNS Disorders, and I am a member of the editorial review board of the Journal of Neuro-inflammation. I am a member of the Tennessee Board of Medicine Committee on Pain Treatment Regulations. My current research interests focus on ultrasound neuro-imaging,and rapid assessment of SUDs & other psychopathology.
