Executive Medical Director CLRC, Ltd.

Summary

  • I graduated from UT Medical School in 1981. I was recognized as Outstanding Student in Psychiatry in my class. I then did one year of Internal Medicine (Internship) at UT Southwestern affliated program. I returned to UT Houston Medical School to complete my 3 years training in psychiatry. Very neuroscience oriented program under Chairman Louis Faillace, MD. My last year I was Chief Resident and acted as junior faculty assisting Ken Reed MD, PhD in re-organizing the Consultation service to our main teaching hospital-Memorial Hermann. I received perhaps the best training possible in psychiatry through the UTMSH residency program under Dr. Faillace. I then was accepted for a 2 year Research Fellowship at NIMH in Bethesda under Dennis Murphy, MD and others such as Bill Potter, MD, PhD in the Laboratory of Clinical Sciences. 1 year on research ward implementing protocols in eating disorder patients, completed a protocol in age/sex/nml weight matched normals who underwent pre and post LP's following 5% weight loss over 6 weeks. Year 2 I help develop assay to measure CSF Dynorphin A1-8 under guidance of Wade Berretini MD, PHD. I returned to UT Houston as Asst. Prof. and ran acute research units at HCPC for 3 yrs. I entered private practice in late 1989 and began mainly as hospitalist. Jim Claghorn, MD asked me to work at his private research clinic, CRA, and I transitioned to full ownership in 1994. Renamed CRA-to CLRC, Ltd. Focus became inpatient early drug developement. We developed our own 24 bed free-standing research unit and 8000 sq. ft. outpt. research center owned by the clinic. We have been one of just 2 sites in first Qtc studies in 2nd generation antipsychotics. We also have a strong reputation in developing medications for psychotic agitation. Recently we have developed infusion capabilities with dedicated space and equipment. We have experience with P-50/MMN. Our staff prides itself on implementing cutting edge protocols.
