  • Adam J. Milam, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor and Senior Associate Consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic Arizona. He was recently appointed as the Enterprise Medical Director for the Office of Health Equity and Inclusion (OHEI) for Mayo Clinic. OHEI’s mission is to research, assess, recommend, implement, and maintain standardized processes and operational infrastructure to support and ensure Mayo Clinic’s commitment to inclusivity and health equity for all patient populations Mayo Clinic serves. Dr. Milam is also a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University College of Heath Solutions and Faculty Associate at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Prior to starting this position at Mayo Clinic, he completed his cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic and residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, he attended Johns Hopkins University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health. He also holds a Master of Health Science as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health from the Department of Mental Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
    Dr. Milam has been actively involved in several national and state societies including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the National Medical Association; he serves on committees for each of these organizations. He also is actively engaged in research; Dr. Milam’s research is rooted in practices, policies, and interventions to address health disparities and health inequities.
