  • Dr Rittberg has 42 years experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He started one of the first mood disorders clinics in the Twin Cities in 1985 as part of his long-term role in the University of Minnesota Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. He is a teacher/mentor to medical students and resident physicians. His depression related research has included vagus nerve stimulation, deep brain stimulation, and ketamine-like drugs and was one of the first psychiatrists in the Twin Cities to use ketamine in a clinical setting. He focuses on treatment resistant depression utilizing neuromodulation, ketamine, and psychopharmacology (including the use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors), in coordination with skilled psychotherapists. He has almost 20 years’ experience with vagus nerve stimulation.
