  • Dr. Bob Carter is currently Professor and Chief of Neurosurgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his B.A. with University Honors in Chemistry at Brigham Young University, his M.D. with AOA distinction at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and his Ph.D. in genetic epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Carter trained in Neurosurgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and remained on the faculty until he was recruited to UC San Diego in 2010 as Professor and Chair. While at UC San Diego, Dr. Carter led the formation of the UC San Diego Neurological Institute and co-directed the UCSD Brain Tumor Center. In 2017, Dr. Carter was recruited back to MGH to lead the Department of Neurosurgery, where he specializes in complex intracranial surgery for brain and skull base tumors including pituitary adenoma and meningioma and cerebrovascular pathology.

    Dr. Carter lectures nationally and internationally on neurosurgery topics and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgery.
