- David J. Houghton, MD, MPH, is a board-certified neurologist with expertise in movement disorders and digital health at Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently serves as Section Head of Movement Disorders and System Vice Chair of Neurology. He previously was System Chair of Telemedicine and Medical Director of Ochsner Digital Medicine. Dr. Houghton earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and an MPH in Epidemiology from Emory University. He completed his neurology residency and movement disorders fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Professionally, he has received executive education in physician leadership through the Health Management Academy and Harvard Business School’s Consortium for Community Health.
Since joining Ochsner, Dr. Houghton has directed Ochsner Center of Excellence in Huntington’s Disease and Parkinson's Disease Comprehensive Care Center. He has been Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials and has authored peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Nature Medicine, JAMA, and Journal of Neurosurgery. Dr. Houghton also played a central role in building Ochsner’s telemedicine and remote monitoring infrastructure, and he contributes to national efforts through his ongoing role on the AMA’s Digital Medicine Payment Advisory Group.
Dr. Houghton is a recognized educator and mentor, honored with teaching awards and system-level recognitions at Ochsner. He has twice been named Neurology Teaching Faculty of the Year at Ochsner, and he was also recognized as System Physician of the Month and a “Top 75” physician across the Ochsner system. In 2021, he received the Ochsner Executive Leadership Innovation Award. His work combines clinical excellence, academic leadership, and unique healthcare delivery models that expand access and improve outcomes for patients with neurologic conditions.
