  • I am a Board Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon with thirty four years experience. I attended undergraduate college at the United States Naval Academy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975. Subsequently, I attended the University of Iowa Medical College in Iowa City, Iowa under Navy Scholarship. I received my M.D. on completion in 1979. My General Surgery Internship was served at Naval Hospital San Diego from 1979 to 1980. I spent a year serving the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton as a Battalion Medical Officer from 1980 to 1981. I returned to Naval Hospital San Diego to perform my Orthopaedic Surgery Residency, from 1981 to 1985. The residency was performed in conjunction with the University of California San Diego Hospital, San Diego Children's Hospital, and Sharp Rehabilitation Hospitals' programs. I obtained an additional year of Fellowship training in Comprehensive Adult Spinal Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California San Diego, a combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical program, from 1985 to 1986. I formed and directed the Adult Orthopaedic Spine Service for the Navy at San Diego and subsequently Portsmouth Naval Hospital, which were residency teaching programs from 1986 to 1994. I supervised the Adult Orthopaedic Spine Service at the University of Kansas Medical Center, a residency teaching program from 1994 to 2000. I retired from the Navy as a Captain (O-6) with 25 years of service toward retirement. I am an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as a fellow member, and I am a member of the North American Spine Society. Finally, I am Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, tested in the field of spinal surgery. I have been in the practice of treating adult spinal disorders of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine spanning my entire professional career since 1986. Ingram's, Kansas City's Business Magazine, named me as one of Kansas City's Top Doctors, Class of 2011.
