Overview of Dr. Selman

Dr. Selman is Professor of Clinical Pediatric Neurology at Columbia Unicersity-Columbia Doctors. He is the former Chief of Neurology at Blythedale Children’s Hospital, a children’s specialty / rehabilitation hospital in Valhalla, NY.
Dr. Selman completed his undergraduate AB in political science and MS in Speech and Hearing Science at Washington University in St. Louis. He graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. At Jacobi – Einstein – Montefiore Hospitals he completed residency training in Pediatrics and Neurology with a Fellowship in Child Neurology. He also did special training in EEG at Columbia. Dr. Selman has been a member of the faculties of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, North Shore University Hospital, Cornell University Medical Center, and Columbia. After more than 25 years in private practice of Adult and Pediatric Neurology he joined Blythedale from 2008 - 2019 and Bronx Lebanon Hospitals where worked from 2008 – 2015 (BLHC).
Dr. Selman has Board Certification in Pediatrics, Neurology with Special Competence in Child Neurology, Added Qualifications in Sleep Medicine, Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Clinical Neurophysiology (inactive).
His special areas of interest and expertise include epilepsy, TBI (traumatic brain injury), anti NMDA receptor encephalitis, autism, migraine, sleep disorders, and developmental disabilities. Recently he has present the results of post discharge followup of 21 patients with ANMDAR encephalitis at national meetings.
