Summary
- Dr. John L. Bell received his medical degree from the University of Alabama/Birmingham, following which he completed an internship and residency in General Surgery in 1986 at the same facility. Dr. Bell then completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1988. Immediately following his fellowship, Dr. Bell was recruited by the Department of Surgery to develop a Division of Surgical Oncology and an overall oncology program at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Dr. Bell currently serves as Director of the Cancer Institute at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine and a Surgical Oncologist with University Surgical Oncology. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Bell is a member of numerous societies including the Southern Surgical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. He is past-president of the National Consortium of Breast Centers 2011-2013, and has authored numerous publications and abstracts.
