Summary

  • Dr. Sanchez is an experienced physician and healthcare executive with a broad range of skills and interests at the nexus of clinical medicine and organizational dynamics. He has held progressive leadership positions and serves on various national panels, study groups, and committees focused on systems and human factors engineering as well as patient safety, and operations research. He is interested in a variety of health services delivery issues including patient safety in the perioperative arena. Widely published in the scientific literature, his biomedical research interests revolve around the molecular mechanisms in protecting the myocardium against oxidative stress. Over a decade ago, his laboratory demonstrated the effectiveness of pharmacologic agents in preconditioning the heart against ischemia. The intellectual property assets secured from these experiments have resulted in spinoff ventures undergoing commercialization. Dr. Sanchez performed the first pediatric heart transplant in eastern Kentucky and the first robotic mitral valve repair in Connecticut. He has consistently been recognized as a Top Doctor in Connecticut, the New York Metro Area, and in America. He is Past-President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and has provided testimony on various national and state public policy issues impacting patients and physicians. He is a previous Malcolm Baldrige Award Examiner and a Six Sigma Green Belt from the American Society for Quality.
