  • Dr. Matthew Thompson was born and raised in Central Kansas. He studied biochemistry at the University of Kansas, prior to attending the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he was honored with the Best Student Recognition of Achievement in Foundations of Medicine, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed residency in orthopedic surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center where he was the recipient of the Award for Excellence for Outstanding Achievement and Contribution to the Orthopedic Residency Program, was nominated to the Resident Leadership Forum and recognized as an Emerging Leader by the American Orthopedic Association. Dr. Thompson completed fellowship at the University of Washington where he was subsequently recruited to remain on faculty as Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Fellowship, serving patients at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center and Seattle Children’s Hospital. He served the greater Pacific Northwest in this capacity for over 5 years before moving to Bend with his young family. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons and member of the Connective Tissue Oncology and Musculoskeletal Tumor Societies.

    Dr. Thompson specializes in primary and revision total joint replacement, limb salvage surgery, orthopedic trauma, and the management of benign, malignant, and metastatic tumors of the musculoskeletal system. “What an honor and privilege it is to be trusted by patients seeking relief from musculoskeletal injury or disease. I enjoy getting to know my patients while learning how their orthopedic condition impacts their overall health and daily life. In this way, together, we can pragmatically weigh and consider treatment options in pursuit of an individual’s specific functional aspirations.”
