Megan Marie Matrenec DO FACOS

Summary

• Megan Matrenec, DO, is a board-certified urologic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of urologic cancers including cancers of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate, testicles, penis, adrenal glands and other related organs in the genitourinary tract.
  
  While her training and prior practice experience encompasses all urologic cancers, she more specifically has expertise in treating bladder and kidney cancer and has invested in this interest both clinically and academically.
  
  Dr. Matrenec performs complex surgeries including radical cystectomy, radical and partial nephrectomy, and adrenalectomy and is also proficient in minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She has performed a large volume of robotic radical cystectomies.
  
  Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Matrenec was a senior physician at Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento, practicing urologic oncology. She was also previously an assistant professor of urologic oncology at The Ohio State University.
  
  Currently, she is an associate professor of urology at UC San Diego School of Medicine where she trains and mentors medical students, residents and fellows. She is a faculty member in the department's urologic oncology fellowship program.
  
  Dr. Matrenec completed fellowship training in urologic oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and residency training in urology at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Stratford, N.J. She earned her medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
