- Dr Hoffmann completed his medical degree, MBBch at the University of Witwatersrand Johannesburg, South Africa and subsequent neurology specialization and boards, FCP(SA) Neurol) administered by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of South Africa. He completed a stroke fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, Neurological Institute of New York, with Dr J.P, Mohr and Dr R. Sacco as mentors. Subsequent senior doctorate degrees in both clinical medicine (MD) and behavioral medicine (PhD) were obtained through the University of KwaZulu Natal. Dr Hoffmann was promoted to full Professor in 2004 and has held academic appointments in South Africa (UKZN), Canada (Memorial University), United States (University of Kentucky, University of South Florida), courtesy appointments (University of Florida, NOVA South Eastern University) and currently with the University of Central Florida. He was the founding director of the Primary Stroke Center (2002) and Comprehensive Stroke Center, Tampa General Hospital/University of South Florida (2004), as well as the founding director of the Primary Stroke Center at the James A Haley VA Hospital, Tampa, Florida (2013). Academic positions held at the University of South Florida included, Associate Dean of Academic Assessment, Interim Chair of Neurology and Vice Chair of Neurology. Grant activity has included physician initiated grants awarded by the Medical Research Council of South Africa, the K.M. Browse Award by the College of Medicine of South Africa, NIH-K award through the University of Kentucky BIRCWH program and two University of South Florida internal neuroscience grants. Most recent appointments have included director of the cognitive neurology and stroke programs at the James A Haley VA Hospital in Tampa Florida and currently with the Orlando VA Medical Center. Scholarly activity includes a plenitude of peer reviewed manuscript publications and abstracts, as well as three single author books.
