Summary

  • I am a tenured Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep, and Allergy at UIC and Section Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center. I am also the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory at UIC and JBVA. As a board-certified pulmonologist and intensivist, I have expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with all pulmonary diseases with a focus on those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and/or asthma. I am also a health services researcher with a history of extramural funding with a primary focus of improving the diagnosis and management of patients with COPD and/or asthma. As a health services researcher, I have experience in mixed methods research and have conducted observational and comparative effectiveness studies to better understand the impact of diagnostic error in COPD and asthma in an underserved population. I have had success in collaborating with both research and clinical personnel across disciplines to conduct research activities throughout multiple institutions.
