Nancy G. Powers, MD is a general pediatrician who trained at the University of Virginia and the University of California-San Diego. She is currently available as a self-employed consultant/independent contractor.
A unique chance to work with child survival programs in developing countries led Dr. Powers to a subspecialty interest in human lactation/breastfeeding that has continued for over 30 years. She has extensive academic background AND clinical expertise including: Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative; early assistance for breastfeeding the term or preterm newborn; special challenges for mothers and babies; medical conditions impacting mother or infant during breastfeeding; low milk supply and/or slow weight gain; and oral-motor dysfunction in the newborn/infant.
Primarily a clinician and clinical teacher, Dr. Powers also is involved with scholarly writing and clinical research. She has worked and consulted in the US, Central Asia, Central America, South America and selected Asian locations.
From 2013-2014, Dr. Powers worked as a Pediatric Hospitalist with KU-Wichita Pediatrics at Wesley Medical Center. She has additional expertise regarding newborn care in addition to clinical management of breastfeeding dyads.
