  • Dr. Paul Thompson is Chief of Cardiology, Emeritus at Hartford Hospital and Professor of Medicine, Emeritus at UCONN. He received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and has been in practice 45 years. He specializes in general cardiology, preventive cardiology and sports cardiology. He has authored over 500 scientific articles and 3 books including Exercise and Sports Cardiology (2018) and Statin-Associated Muscle Symptoms (2020). His present research is focused on the long-term cardiac effects of endurance exercise. His interest in exercise arose from his personal participation in distance running. He finished 16th in the 1976 Boston Marathon and qualified for the 1972 US Olympic Marathon Trials. He continues to see patients 2 days weekly and to cover in-patient cardiology services at Hartford Hospital.
