  • Dr. Rafael Alexander Ortiz is Executive Director of Neurosciences at White Plains Hospital. His specialties include endovascular treatment of cerebral aneurysms; embolization of brain tumors and vascular tumors of the head and neck region; cerebral and spinal arteriovenous malformations; ischemic stroke; cerebral and carotid artery stenting; and treatment of craniofacial vascular lesions (AVM, venous and lymphatic malformations) in adults and children, among others.

    After receiving his medical degree from the Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico, Dr. Ortiz completed an internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was also named chief resident. That was followed by fellowships in Vascular Neurology and Neuro-Critical Care at the Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, and in Interventional Neuroradiology and Endovascular Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital, where he served as attending physician and director of the fellowship program for several years.

    Prior to joining White Plains Hospital, Dr. Ortiz was founder and Chief of Neuro-Endovascular Surgery and Interventional Neuro-Radiology at Lenox Hill Hospital and Northwell Health Western Region. Dr. Ortiz was also Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology and Radiology at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine.

    Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Ortiz was honored with a Proclamation by the New York State Senate in 2012 for his dedication to community education and outstanding patient care, was recipient of the Men of the year by El Diario in 2013 and won the Latino Trendsetter Award in 2016. He has been named on the list of Super Doctors and Top Doctors by Castle Connolly, NY Magazine and The New York Times 2016-2023.

    Dr. Ortiz was the President of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, New York City Chapter 2021 to 2023. He is known for his dedication to community education, patient satisfaction and outstanding patient care.
