Summary
- I am Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. I oversee the Cardiac EP Fellowship program at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital Campus. As an Academic Cardiac Electrophysiologist, I treat patients with simple and complex cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia and syncope. I perform the full gamut of cardiac ablation procedures, including complex ablations for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. In addition, I implant the full range of pacemakers, defibrillators and other cardiac electrical devices.
I am actively involved in research and teaching. I have authored or coauthored numerous papers on diverse topics including atrial fibrillation, the role of cardiac stem cells in cardiac arrhythmias, concepts in Sudden Cardiac Death, and studies involved with stem cell implants in patients with heart failure. I have performed preclinical and clinical research into the anti-arrhythmic effects from implantation of bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells. This includes being PI in various NIH-sponsored trials such as the CONCERT-HF Trial, a study of Combination of Mesenchymal and C-kit+ Cardiac Stem Cells as Regenerative Therapy for Heart Failure (CONCERT-HF; NCT02501811). My other area of research is in advancing catheter ablation for patients with atrial fibrillation. I was the site PI during the CABANA trial. Additionally, I am directing and/or co-directing clinical studies examining new algorithms at mapping atrial fibrillation. Overall, I have co-authored 80 original manuscripts and 20 book chapters.
