  • Brief Biographical Sketch
    Robert E. Feinstein, M.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the Dell Medical School and formerly at University of Colorado School of Medicine, & Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He is Associate Chairman of Education, in the Department of Psychiatry Dell Medical School and Director of Integrated Mental Health at University Texas Health Austin. Formerly, he served as Senior Associate Dean for Education (2007-2011) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU-SOM) He was also concurrently Psychiatric Outpatient Practice Director at the University of Colorado Hospital. Dr. Feinstein was previously Director of Residency Training for 7 years at New York Medical College, Westchester Division.
    Dr. Feinstein has spent his entire career in academia. Dr. Feinstein is an expert in practicing and teaching 6 forms of psychotherapy, including psychoanalysis, psychodynamic psychotherapy, family therapy, crisis intervention, CBT/Motivational interviewing, and Gestalt Therapy. Dr. Feinstein is also an expert in integrated care, personality disorders, and suicide and violence prevention.
    In addition, Dr. Feinstein is a clinically oriented researcher in, psychiatry, primary care, health and wellness, and medical education. He was on the Editorial Boards of Academic Psychiatry, currently on the editorial board of Cardiology in Review, and is a reviewer for the American Journal of Psychiatry. He has written two books on Integrated Care. Most recently (2017), Oxford University Press, published Integrated Mental Health & Primary Care. As an educator, he has been teacher of the year 6 times at 6 academic medical centers, was a founding member of the CU-SOM Academy of Medical Educators. He was teacher of the year seven times (at multiple institutions) and one of the first 2 physicians EVER to become a Presidents Teacher Scholar for the University of Colorado, Denver.
