    Robert N. Sawyer, Jr. M.D., FAHA is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. He is the Co-Director of the Stroke Program at the Gates Vascular Institute.

    Dr. Sawyer’s research interests are in stroke research. He has a keen interest in neurological applications for cardiac systems of care, stroke systems of care, and atrial pathology as a source for stroke.

    Dr. Sawyer graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his medical internship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and his neurology residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He completed a fellowship in eye movement at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He then completed a fellowship in Undersea Medicine at the U. S. Navy Undersea Medical Institute. He returned to Buffalo in 2009, after a career as an Undersea Medical Officer in the U. S. Navy.
