After graduating from Southwestern Medical School, I completed a medicine residency at Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan, a New York Medical College affiliate, serving also as Chief Resident. I then entered a rheumatology fellowship at Georgetown University, and served four years in the U.S Air Force. Since obtaining a PhD in Medical Anthropology at the University of Californie at San Francisco, I have combined clinical practice with service as a University of California clinical faculty member. In 2013 I "retired" after 24 years of service as a state physician with the California Department of Corrections, and Department of State Hospitals. My practice now is as a rheumatologist and internist, at Edington Medical Group, a practice largely devoted to preparing independent medical evaluations of injured workers. We have offices in Sacramento, Emeryville, Santa Rosa, and Fairfield. I serve as a Medical Expert consultant for the Medical Board of the State of California. My research interests include correctional medicine, geriatrics, and cultural issues relative to chronic illness.
