- Scott P Layne MD FACP FIDSA is a physician-scientist known for interdisciplinary work in applied virology, large-scale laboratory technologies, biological security policy and epidemiologic analysis. He has over 60 publications (including books, patents and government reports) with many technical publications appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Nature and Science.
Throughout the pandemic, as a practicing infectious disease physician, Dr. Layne has cared for over 1000 patients who were hospitalized for acute SARS-CoV-2 infections and life-threatening COVID-19. He has organized major scientific studies to understand how COVID-19 attacks and destroys human lungs and also authored major publications on topics pertaining to molecular pathogenesis of COVID-19 and needs for global surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 variants.
