Summary
- Dr. Jay Songcharoen was born in Mississippi. He grew up in Madison, in a household of two prominent physicians, Somprasong and Suthin Songcharoen, who remain his lifelong personal and professional inspiration. He received his bachelor’s degree at Vanderbilt University with majors in physics and mathematics and a minor in psychology. Then, he earned a master’s degree in Medical Science at Mississippi College. In 2007, he entered medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he went on to finish his residency in Plastic Surgery followed by a fellowship in Hand Surgery. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. Additionally, he has presented his research in several national conferences.
Dr. Songcharoen has experience in all aspects of plastic surgery including reconstructive and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. He has additional focused experience in hand and upper extremity surgery including microvascular surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and surgery of the arthritic hand. As much as he loves to be in the operating room, he also has experience in non-operative care. This includes injectables, lasers, and skin resurfacing for cosmetic patients. For hand and reconstructive patients he has experience with injections for joints, dupuytren's contractures, Raynaud's phenomenon, and the latest therapies for the management of complex wounds.
Dr. Songcharoen is a life-long learner; he is patient and meticulous. He obsesses about the aesthetics of form and function, and has many passions outside of his work life including photography, cooking, exercising, DJing, working on cars, and most importantly, being a husband and a father. He is extremely family oriented, happily married to a Rheumatologist, Dr. Sharon Hong and adores his two young children, Lincoln and Skye.
