Summary

  • After years of practicing medicine as a paid employee and becoming fed up with assembly-line medicine, I decided to branch out and start a different kind of practice! I had tried working as a physician in different capacities – in a small group practice, in a hospital-owned practice as a laborist, in a large multi-specialty group, etcetera. Some of these jobs were better than others. In fact, one practice was so bad I had to leave because they actually pressured the providers to perform unnecessary procedures on patients to increase profits! But regardless of the type of practice, I found that they all shared this one common problem: they are all productivity-driven models as opposed to patient-centered, relational models of care. These practices are all essentially manufacturing plants where the patients are treated poorly, and where I was a glorified factory worker, practicing assembly-line medicine.

So this is why I started my small ideal practice. I have to practice medicine in a way that aligns with my faith, because my practice is my ministry. Patient-centered, evidence-based care is my focus; and I serve in the community that I love with a heart of joy and gratitude. In my small, community-based ideal practice the sacred physician-patient relationship is restored. I see 5 – 8 patients per day, so appointments are prolonged – up to 1 hour for new patients and 30 minutes for follow ups. My entire medical practice is housed in a 200 square foot space, and I have no staff, which makes my overhead 90% less than a traditional practice. Because my overhead is so low, I can have only a tenth of the patient load of a typical physician and really get to know each patient well. This is a cash only practice, so the time one would normally spend documenting, coding, and fighting with insurance companies I spend with my patients! I am an educator, a compassionate listener, a kind friend, and shining example of God's Love! I look forward to being your physician!
