Summary

  • Dr. Yuk Ming Liu is a burn, critical care and trauma surgeon currently on sabbatical. She received her medical degree from University at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and has been in practice 5 years.

During her sabbatical, Dr Liu recently travelled to Freetown, Sierra Leone in response the fuel tanker explosion disaster on November 5, 2021. She was a volunteer burn consultant via Global Response Management and worked alongside multiple international teams including a Senegalese team deployed by WHO.

Dr Liu's passion is in the unique multidisciplinary care of burns which encompasses the principles of critical care and trauma. During her sabbatical she is reconnecting with her prior passion for working with the underserved through her global surgery work in resource poor nations and through volunteering stateside in free medical clinicals (when possible). She will return to Monrovia, Liberia with Dr David Knight and his Waterbury Hospital team as as alumna attending in April 2022. The aim is to continue this ten-plus year collaboration to evolve into outreach in Liberia. She additionally will volunteer her time with the surgeons based in Bere, Chad in May or June 2022.
