The Opportunity: Ascension St. Vincent Birmingham (ASVB) is one of the nation’s leading non-profit and Catholic health systems, with a mission of delivering compassionate, personalized care to all with special attention to those most vulnerable. The hospital offers breastfeeding support, high-risk pregnancy care, intensive care for newborns, pregnancy and birthing centers and postpartum care. ASVB also offers maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialists and other doctors with advanced training to care for complex pregnancies. ASVB hosts onsite services, such as neonatal intensive care units (NICU).

A day in the life includes:

• Caring for all pregnant women who present emergently, regardless of circumstance
• Cultivating relationships with staff nurses and hospital personnel
• Supporting private practice physicians by providing coverage and assistance
• Caring for unassigned patients
• Evaluating and treating triage patients
• Providing consultation to the ED
• Monitoring labor
• Delivering babies
• Performing surgery and surgical assists
• Evaluating and treating postpartum patients
• Providing nurse support and education
