General Position Summary:
The Diagnostic Radiologist provides a spectrum of image interpretation, image-guided procedures, and patient care services within the specialty of Diagnostic Radiology and may also possess additional subspecialty expertise. In addition to the clinical practice of general diagnostic radiology, other duties include contributions to quality assurance and performance improvement, oversight of technical quality, education of staff and trainees, committee assignments and other activities that support clinical operations and the mission, values and goals of the VA and the Medical Center.
Basic Qualifications:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met the requirements for certification, (copy of ECFMG certificate must be provided).
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Current, Full Unrestricted License to practice medicine.
- Board Certification in Radiology
- 2 years' experience preferred
Duties include:
- Interprets General Radiology examinations (plain film).
- Performs fluoroscopic examinations with the assistance of a licensed Technologist.
- Performs some basic IR procedures (Paracentesis) when IR doctor not available.
- Interprets Ultrasound, CT, and MRI examinations.
- Participates in Quality Management activities such as image quality and peer review.
- Provide guidance and direction to the technologists performing CT, MRI, US, plain film, and fluoroscopic examinations.
- Participates in education of facility and Imaging staff and students from affiliated programs.
- Supports and participates in continuous learning and self-development.
- Participate in clinical conferences such as Tumor Board and others.
- Work is evaluated on peer review process and RVU production.
- Other activities as required.
