  • The University of Virginia (UVA) seeks a full-time, open track, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor to join its Division of Pediatric Cardiology. Salary is dependent upon qualifications.

    Candidates must have an MD or DO and be board certified in Pediatric Cardiology. The successful candidate will have completed a year of additional formal training in advanced heart failure, transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support, and must meet criteria to be recognized as a transplant physician by UNOS. Training and experience at an institution with a high performing congenital heart surgery and transplant program is strongly preferred.

    The candidate is expected to be appointed in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology of the Department of Pediatrics. The Pediatric Cardiology Division is composed of senior and junior faculty and currently comprises 13 cardiologists with a variety of clinical interests, including heart failure/transplantation/mechanical circulatory support, pulmonary hypertension, interventional cardiology, imaging, adult congenital heart disease, and electrophysiology. At the time of this candidate’s arrival, there will be 3 additional faculty members in the division currently caring for the heart failure/transplant/mechanical support population with whom inpatient and outpatient clinical coverage will be shared. Additional clinical responsibilities will include covering the general pediatric cardiology inpatient and outpatient clinic services. Participation in heart failure/ transplantation/ cardiomyopathy clinics will be expected as well. We currently have 2 nurse practitioners dedicated to the pediatric heart transplant team as well as 2 dedicated congenital heart surgeons who perform surgical procedures on congenital heart disease patients of all ages with some of the best risk-adjusted mortality rates in the country. UVA is the lead institution in the Virginia Congenital Cardiac Consortium, a three-institution collaborative that directs the highest complexity patients to the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. The surgical program averages 10 pediatric cardiac transplants yearly in addition to placement and management of mechanical circulatory devices. Our Children’s Heart Program has been ranked in the top 50 in the US News and World Report annual survey each of the past 8 years.
