Responsibilities

Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospitalist Duties and Responsibilities (12 hour shifts)            

  • Care for unassigned inpatient OB and GYN patients
  • Provide triage and / or OB ED services
  • Provide GYN consultations for hospitalized patients and the Emergency Department
  • Oversee residents, fellows, midwives or advanced practice nurses
  • Provide call coverage and L&D support: interpretation of EFM strips, stand-by for deliveries, perform delivery and monitoring of laboring patients for private OBs
  • Serve as MFM extenders
  • Surgically assist for other OBs or gynecologists

General Obstetrics and Gynecology attending physician Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides general primary obstetric and gynecological care using generally accepted standards of practice. The physician develops a plan of care for each patient, including complete history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and /or referral, uses all available resources in an appropriate and cost efficient manner.
  2. Hospitalizes as needed any patient requiring in-patient care. Provides obstetric and gynecological care according to accepted ACOG standards during the hospitalization.
  3. Confers with consulting physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, support staff, patients, and families concerning treatment and care of patients. Makes appropriate specialty and sub-specialty referrals, but maintains responsibility, assuring continuing of care.
  4. Perform general gynecological and obstetric surgical procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, using both minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques.
  5. Physician will enter into Collaborative agreements with SJH midlevel providers including midwives.
  6. Participates in health promotion/disease prevention activities. Stresses the importance of preventive health care measures.
  7. Supports mid-level providers in supervision and consultation.
  8. Participates in quality improvement/assurance activities.
  9. Attends and participates in SJH activities as requested.
  10. Attends mandatory in-services and Employer meetings.
  11. Completes records in adequate professional detail, and in a timely manner using electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  12. Maintains and acquires knowledge and skills to perform required duties to meet all hospital, state, organizational and licensure requirements.
  13. Abides by the Employer Obstetrics Department protocols and guidelines.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Chairman, and/or Vice President of Physician Services, to meet the goal of providing excellent health care.

St. Joseph’s Health provides a salary range to comply with New Jersey Law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc.” The salary range does not include incentives; differential pay or other forms of compensation. 121.68/HR
