Authorized beds include 182 general medical, surgical, and psychiatry; 90 Extended Care Rehabilitation Center; 26 Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (10 long term Substance Abuse).

    Physician – Anesthesiologist

    Salem VA Medical Center - Salem, Virginia.

    -Current staffing: 1 Chief, 5 CRNA’s

    -2 Full-Time positions, 2.0 FTEE  

    Practice Environment Description: As a Staff Anesthesiologist you will report to the Chief of Anesthesia who reports to the Chief of Surgery.

    Highlights of this position include:

    • Potential starting base salary: $325,000 - $400,000                                                                        
    • Daily schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30pm, non-telework eligible, non-remote.
    • Additional night and weekend calls are distributed on an equitable basis with the other staff. By rotation, approximately once every 7 days.
    • Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery from any U.S. State
    • Open to evaluating current trainees and recent graduates, as well as non-citizens holding J1 or H1B visas.

     

     Additional requirements:

    • Board certified or board eligible and BC/BE Anesthesiologist.

    Compensation Details

    $325K–$400K

    1. The VA offers physicians and all employees industry-leading full benefits and features a package to support high quality professional practice & a favorable work-life-family balance. Paid Time Off in the form of 26 Days paid annual leave, 13 Days paid sick leave per year, 11 Federal holidays with pay, and 5-Day paid absence to attend approved Continued Medical Education (CME). VA offers a predictable work schedule and focuses on quality rather than volume. 2. Federal Retirement Plans through the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) - A three-tiered retirement plan composed of 1) Social Security benefits; 2) FERS-FRAE basic benefits (pension); and 3) Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) which is a 401K-type plan, with up to five percent matching. 3. Pay Flexibilities Regular market pay reviews, sign on bonus, up to $15,000 in Annual Performance bonus. 4. Malpractice Insurance VA physicians are covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act - 28 U.S.C. § 1346 and 28 U.S.C § 2671. Medical personnel have statutory immunity from “individual” malpractice liability while acting within the scope of employment; a VA physician cannot be sued in civil court for a malpractice (tort) claim.
