    Emergency Medicine Physician – Contract Opportunity

    Columbia VA Health Care System – Columbia, SC Full-Time Equivalent (FTE): 3.11 Minimum Coverage Requirement   Schedule: 24/7/365 ED Coverage (including Federal Holidays) 7 on 7 off schedule— $290 hrly 

    Join the dedicated Emergency Department team at the Columbia VA Health Care System and provide high‑quality, mission‑driven care to our nation’s Veterans. We are seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician to provide onsite clinical services in a continuously operating VA Emergency Department. 

    Position Highlights

    • Provide Emergency Department coverage in a 24/7/365 setting
    • Work within a well‑supported, mission-centered VA healthcare environment
    • Deliver care aligned with American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards
    • Serve a highly appreciative Veteran patient population   

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical Duties (95%)

    • Evaluate, stabilize, and manage urgent and emergent medical conditions
    • Provide trauma care (Levels I–V) and full-spectrum resuscitation
    • Manage cardiac, respiratory, neurologic, psychiatric, endocrine, infectious, and gastrointestinal emergencies
    • Perform critical emergency procedures, including:
    • Intubation
    • Central and arterial line placement
    • Chest tube insertion
    • Procedural sedation
    • Cardioversion/defibrillation
    • Lumbar puncture
    • Fracture/dislocation reduction
    • Stabilize and transfer patients requiring higher levels of care
    • Coordinate admissions and provide discharge education

    Administrative Duties (5%)

    • Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities
    • Attend required staff and departmental meetings
    • Complete timely and accurate documentation in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR)
    • Utilize Emergency Department Integration Software (EDIS)
    • Submit required QA/QI documentation

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current, full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
    • Current ACLS and BLS certifications
    • Active DEA registration and NPI
    • Successful completion of VA credentialing and privileging process
