OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) is seeking a pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeon.
As a comprehensive Congenital Heart Center, our program at CHOI provides a full spectrum of pediatric cardiology services. Our Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgeons treat a wide range of heart defects in all age groups from newborns to adults.
Overview:
- Perform a full spectrum of pediatric cardiac surgical procedures including primary repairs of congenital heart defects, valve repair and replacement procedures, cardiac and vascular reconstructions, and complex neonatal cardiac operations.
- Provide pre-operative evaluation, surgical planning, intraoperative management, and post-operative care in collaboration with our multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in clinical rounds, cardiac case conferences, and care coordination meetings.
- Collaborate with our pediatric ICU and critical care teams to optimize post operative recovery and long-term outcomes.
- Provide compassionate, high quality, patient-centered care.
- Support education and mentorship for fellows, residents, medical students, and staff.
- Contribute to research, program development, and clinical innovation to advance pediatric cardiac care.
Children’s Hospital of Illinois:
Located in Peoria, OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) is the third largest children’s hospital in Illinois and the most comprehensive hospital for children in downstate Illinois. CHOI serves a population base of approximately 4.5 million, is a Level One trauma center and is the only pediatric hospital within the OSF Healthcare system.

- Joina team of ten board certified pediatric cardiologists and be supported by a team of pediatric critical care intensivists, including specialized pediatric cardiac intensivists.
- Children’s Hospital of Illinois is investing in a new Pediatric Specialty Care Center ambulatory building, which will be home to the Congenital Heart Center.
- Our Congenital Heart Center is currently developing collaborative relationships with other regional congenital heart centers to further advance and develop our congenital heart program.
Qualifications:
- Education: Doctorate degree (M.D. or equivalent)
- Licenses / Certification: Physician licensed to practice medicine. Illinois state license required.
- Must be ABTS board certified in Thoracic Surgery, completed an ABTS approved congenital heart surgery fellowship, and be board certified or board eligible in Congenital Heart Surgery.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- Obtain and maintain medical staff membership and appropriate privileges.
- Must be eligible as a provider for Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal health programs.
- Physician shall meet all qualifications to participate in OSF's programs for professional malpractice and other liability coverage.
- Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the State of Illinois to prescribe narcotics, if applicable.
- Demonstrated the ability to surgically treat and post operatively manage all pediatric cardiac defects and conditions within the specialty.
- Experience with ECMO cannulation and management is required.

Compensation Details
$650-800k

Range shown should be used as an estimate as salary can be impacted by many factors including but not limited to the critical need of the position, overall experience and qualifications, community need, and other considerations. Additional compensation components may be applicable such as bonuses or incentives which may or may not be based on metric achievement.
