Physician — The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is seeking a full-time Physician (Radiologist Diagnostic), who is skilled at or recently completed a Fellowship in Neuroimaging interpretation, who is committed to quality patient care, teaching, and research related to all functions of Radiology in beautiful Tucson, Arizona!

Duties:

This physician will be responsible for functions which fall under the scope of care of the Radiology Service. These include clinical and administrative management, and include but are not limited to the following:

  • Examinations — uses assessment skills to promptly interpret radiological examinations using appropriate clinical, laboratory and other pertinent data. Provides follow-up when indicated.
  • Diagnosis — Accurately interprets and evaluates radiological data for the purpose of determining diagnosis and clinical status. Corrects diagnosis when necessary.
  • Therapeutic Ability — Initiates appropriate and timely interpretation. Recognizes changes in behavior, symptoms, sign, and other pertinent facts about the patient during and after the performance of radiology examinations and has the ability to modify plan of treatment when indicated. Recognizes own capabilities and limitations
  • Patient Management — Maintains confidentiality of patients and relatives through competence and interpersonal skills. Acts as a consultant in involving patients in the treatment and management plan.

Requirements:

  1. US Citizen
  2. Must have an active and unrestricted license in any of the US States
  3. Doctor of Medicine or osteopathic medicine
  4. Board Certified or eligible in Diagnostic Radiology.
  5. Significant experience with Neuro Imaging or recently completed a Neuroradiology fellowship. The ability to perform Neuroradiologic procedures such as lumbar punctures and any myelograms is preferred.
  6. Possessing the ability to interpret examinations related to multiple specialties is preferred, as well as the ability to interpret radiographs and perform fluoroscopic exams.
  7. Provide teaching and training for residents/fellows.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Permanent, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, may work some on-call coverage

It also is a Joint Commission-accredited, level 1a complexity teaching hospital, providing tertiary-level care. The SAVAHCS offers a beautiful 150-acre campus with a full range of medical and mental health services for Veterans, including a 31-bed inpatient psychiatry/substance use acute treatment unit, a 25-bed mental health residential rehabilitation treatment program for substance use disorders (SUD) and PTSD treatment, intensive outpatient programs for SUD and PTSD, homeless programs, and more. SAVAHCS operates a 24-hour emergency department and is the host site for various regional referral centers of excellence including the Polytrauma Network Site, the Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center, and the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). The SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Annually nearly 1,000 physicians and associated health trainees participate in health care training programs at the SAVAHCS.

Compensation Details

Benefits Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): approved Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment) This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Pay: $380,000 - $400,000 with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
