A leading national radiology practice is seeking a Founding Program Director to build and lead a brand-new, ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency program at a major academic medical center in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a rare greenfield opportunity to design a residency from the ground up — shaping curriculum, recruiting the inaugural resident class, assembling the teaching framework, and establishing the program's culture and identity from day one.

The program has already achieved Continued ACGME Accreditation (since 2023) and has seven core faculty in place spanning interventional radiology, musculoskeletal, breast, abdominal, neuroradiology, nuclear medicine, and cardiothoracic imaging. What’s missing is the founding leader to bring it all together.

    • Accreditation: ACGME Continued Accreditation (granted 2023)
    • Resident Recruitment: Begins Fall 2026; Match in early 2027
    • First Class Start: Fall 2027 — two residents per year, growing to a maximum of eight over four years
    • Core Faculty: Seven faculty across all major subspecialties already in place
    • Research Requirement: None — this is a clinically focused teaching program
    • Work Model: Hybrid schedule available for the Program Director role with 3 days onsite / 2 days remote
    • Base Compensation: $650,000
    • Clinical/Academic Split: 75% clinical / 25% academic administration
    • Annual Shifts: 200 total — 148 clinical reads in the PD’s subspecialty of choice; 52 shifts dedicated exclusively to program administration
    • Call Structure: Minimum every 6th weekend (varies by subspecialty)
    • Commencement Bonus: Generous commencement bonus provided
    • Partnership Track: Two-year track to physician equity and ownership
    • Medical PPO & HDHP, Dental, and Vision coverage
    • 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with employer contributions
    • HSA & HRA with practice contributions; Flexible Spending Accounts
    • Physician Equity & Ownership opportunity
    • Disability, Life, and AD&D insurance
    • Paid Time Off and Paid Holidays
    • Flexible scheduling and work/life balance
    • Virtual Mental Health Coaching & Therapy
    • Physician Professional Expense Program (PPE)
    • Financial Wellness Program and Identity Theft Protection

The host institution is one of the largest and most clinically complex medical centers in Indiana, featuring:

    • Level I Trauma Center
    • Comprehensive Stroke Center
    • Transplant and Burn Centers
    • Nationally recognized children’s hospital on campus
    • Dedicated Brain and Spine Hospital
    • Robust case volume and clinical diversity across all imaging modalities

    Required

    • Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology (ABR or osteopathic equivalent)
    • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a faculty member in an ACGME-accredited program
    • Documented educational and administrative experience in graduate medical education
    • Demonstrated ongoing clinical activity in radiology
    • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Indiana

    Preferred

    • Prior experience as a Program Director, Associate Program Director, or Core Faculty member in a radiology residency
    • Track record of curriculum development, resident mentorship, or ACGME accreditation work
    • Fellowship training in any radiology subspecialty
