Inova Orthopedics is seeking a dedicated and skilled Specialty Nurse Practitioner or Specialty Physician Assistant (APPs) to join our Ortho Hand specialty team. This outpatient-focused position offers opportunities to work with a collaborative team back and neck related orthopedic conditions.Inova Orthopedic Services leads the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metro area in helping people with arthritis, orthopedic illness, trauma or injury to regain their active lifestyles. Our ortho specialties include groundbreaking, minimally invasive procedures to treat musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, including state-of-the-art joint replacement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform focused clinical evaluations for patients with upper extremity and hand conditions (e.g., fractures, tendon injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, lacerations)
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical exams specific to hand and wrist anatomy and function
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies such as X-rays, MRIs, CTs, and EMG/nerve conduction studies
  • Develop and implement non-operative treatment plans, including splinting, casting, steroid injections, and therapy referrals
  • Assist in the operating room for hand and upper extremity procedures (e.g., tendon repairs, fracture fixation, nerve decompressions) as first or second assist
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, including wound care, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and post-op follow-ups
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment plans, post-surgical care, and rehabilitation expectations
  • Collaborate closely with orthopedic hand surgeons, therapists, and other specialists to ensure coordinated, high-quality care
  • Document all clinical encounters, procedures, and care plans accurately in the electronic medical record
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment as needed in consultation with supervising physician(s)
  • Participate in care team meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Stay current with evidence-based practices in hand surgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and APP scope-of-practice guidelines

Additional Requirements

  • Work Schedule: Full-Time
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Certification: Board certified (ACNP or NCCPA certification), BLS, Virginia License, DEA.
