  • Maine Medical Partners (MMP) is seeking a full-time board certified or eligible (BC/BE) surgeon to join the Division of Acute Care Surgery at Maine Medical Center (MMC) in Portland, Maine.

    The ACS team offers trauma care, surgical care for patients with critical illness, burn and complex wound management, and emergency general surgery. Research programs in translational and clinical outcomes are in place and the candidate would be expected to participate in these efforts.

    The successful candidate must be fellowship trained in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and BC/BE in Surgical Critical Care. The position primarily encompasses all aspects of Acute Care Surgery (trauma, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care); experience in soft tissue infections and burn management is beneficial. The successful candidate should have a demonstrable academic interest in pursuing research, education, and/or administrative activities related to Acute Care Surgery.

    Serving as Maine’s quaternary care hospital, MMC has 700 licensed beds and is the State’s only ACS verified Level I Trauma Center. MMC supports a full complement of residencies and fellowships and integration with Tufts University Medical School. MMC admits 4,000+ trauma patients, 600+ Critical Care patients, and 2,500 emergency general surgery patients each year.

    The surgeon will be employed by MMP, a subsidiary of MMC and Maine’s largest multi-specialty group, serving patients throughout the state and in Northern New England. This high quality team of over 600+ physicians and 350+ advanced practice professionals is based at MMC and delivers care through a network of 54 locations across the State and acts as a regional referral network. The position involves teaching and mentoring surgical residents and medical students from the MMC-Tufts University Medical School Program, and the candidate would have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine.
