Position Overview: A respected academic medical center in Ohio is seeking an accomplished physician to serve as Chief of Endocrinology. This is a unique opportunity to lead a highly engaged academic division with strong research initiatives and a meaningful clinical mission in one of the state’s most diverse and underserved communities.
The incoming Chief will provide strategic direction across clinical care, academic training, and translational research—particularly in the areas of diabetes and endocrine-related clinical trials. Ideal candidates will be at the professor level with recent experience in both clinical practice and academic leadership, and a strong interest in growing a well-balanced program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a division of 5–6 bench researchers (including 2 on active grants) and several advanced practice providers (PAs).
- Oversee clinical operations, research activity, and all training programs (fellows, residents, and students).
- Maintain a hybrid schedule: 3–4 days of outpatient clinical care (half-day clinics), with remaining time dedicated to research, plus 1 day of administrative work.
- Inpatient rotation responsibilities shared among 5 attendings, totaling 10–12 weeks/year, covering two hospitals.
- Serve as a leader and mentor, advancing both clinical excellence and academic development.
- Outpatient volume averages 9–10 patients per half-day, with new patient visits scheduled at 40 minutes and follow-ups at 20 minutes.
Research Focus:
- Guide division research in diabetes, endocrine disease, and clinical trial management.
- Support the growth of independent and collaborative research initiatives across the institution.
Ideal Candidate:
- Mid-career academic physician (3–5+ years of leadership) at the Professor level.
- Recent experience in both clinical and academic environments.
- Strong scholarly output with peer-reviewed publications.
- Independent research experience preferred.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (visa sponsorship is not available).
Institutional & Community Setting:
- The academic medical center includes a 267-bed hospital serving a high-acuity, predominantly Medicaid population.
- Affiliated with a fast-growing university and Level II Trauma Center.
- Located in a highly diverse community with strong institutional support for academic and clinical growth.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base compensation ~ $300,000 (multiple salary streams: clinical via physician group and academic via university).
- $8,500 relocation reimbursement.
- Generous pension contributions on both the clinical and university sides (up to 75% of annual clinical salary).
