Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital (WBUH) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced transplant nephrologist to assume a clinical and leadership role in the CH WBUH Transplant Center as Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program. In conjunction with hospital leadership and the Section Head of the Transplant Center, this physician will be responsible for directing all Kidney Transplant Program activities and for monitoring and meeting external agency requirements. They will have responsibility for excellence in clinical care, programmatic growth, quality outcomes, and regulatory requirements.
This position combines programmatic leadership with transplant nephrology clinical responsibilities, encompassing the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered care across all phases of the transplant continuum. Clinical duties include the evaluation, selection, and management of patients in the pre-transplant phase, active waitlist management, peri-transplant care, and longitudinal post-transplant follow-up, as well as the assessment and care of living and deceased donors to ensure suitability and optimal outcomes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong and visionary leadership, with a deep understanding of transplant regulations and quality standards, and will be committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based clinical care. The candidate will collaborate with referring physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and program performance and contribute to teaching, research, and program development initiatives.
Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital’s Transplant Center, established in 1972, has performed thousands of organ transplants. The program has shown sustained growth, with current annual volume exceeding 90 kidney transplants and 40 liver transplants. The program is notable for innovative protocols and outstanding outcomes with one-year patient and graft survival rates that are amongst the best in Michigan and nationally. The program consists of 4 transplant surgeons, 4 transplant nephrologists and 2 transplant hepatologists performing deceased and living donor kidney transplantation, laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, liver transplantation, simultaneous liver-kidney transplantation, deceased donor abdominal organ procurement, and advanced general surgery pertaining to transplant and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.
