Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct primary care services across the lifespan (birth through adulthood) in a mobile clinic setting
- Conduct comprehensive histories, physical exams, screenings, and preventive care
- Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions using evidence-based practice
- Order, interpret, and act on laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests
- Perform simple procedures (e.g., screenings, immunizations, minor treatments)
- Deliver patient education focused on disease prevention, lifestyle changes, and chronic condition management
- Identify and address social determinants of health; connect patients with community resources
- Document all patient encounters accurately and promptly within the EMR
- Participate in quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and performance initiatives
- Collaborate with the mobile unit team (LPN, LISW, APP) to ensure efficient clinic setup, workflow, and operations
- Precept MUSC students and support onboarding of new team members when needed
- Follow all safety, driving, and equipment protocols for the mobile unit, including pre-/post-travel checklists
- Maintain required licenses, certifications, CME/CNE, and professional organization participation
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program (NCCPA certified) or Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (FNP required for full lifespan coverage)
- Active or eligible South Carolina PA or APRN license
- Active BLS certification
- Ability to obtain or initiate DEA and DHEC licensing before starting
- Valid South Carolina driver’s license
- Ability to practice autonomously with telecommunication support from the supervising physician
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- The schedule consists of three 12-hour shifts
- Mobile unit launches daily from Orangeburg hospital and travels to designated underserved communities
- Requires willingness to drive a 26-foot mobile medical unit (no CDL required)
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 60 lbs and work within confined mobile clinic spaces
- Exposure to outdoor environments, dusty conditions, and varying weather as part of field-based care delivery
