Nicklaus Children's Hospital Heart Institute is seeking a Division Chief of Cardiac Anesthesiology to lead cardiac anesthesiology services within one of the nation's premier pediatric and congenital heart programs. This is an opportunity for an accomplished cardiac anesthesiologist to help shape innovative, multidisciplinary cardiovascular care for children, fetuses, and adults with congenital heart disease.

The Heart Institute provides comprehensive cardiac services, including complex congenital heart surgery, interventional catheterization, electrophysiology, fetal cardiology, advanced imaging, mechanical circulatory support, and developing heart failure and transplant programs. Our pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular surgery services are ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report.

Position Overview

The Division Chief will provide strategic, operational, academic, and clinical leadership for the Cardiac Anesthesiology Division. This leader will partner closely with anesthesiology, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, surgery administration and Heart Institute leadership to advance quality, workforce development, program growth, and exceptional patient outcomes.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in congenital cardiac anesthesiology, strong leadership experience, and a collaborative approach to care across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult congenital heart disease populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Cardiac Anesthesiology Division with a focus on clinical excellence, quality, safety, and innovation.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain faculty and advanced practice providers.
  • Partner across cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, critical care, nursing, perfusion, and Heart Institute leadership to optimize care delivery.
  • Support growth in advanced cardiovascular programs, including ACHD, heart failure and transplant, VAD, ECMO, hybrid procedures, robotic cardiovascular surgery, and imaging-guided interventions.
  • Promote education, scholarly activity, multidisciplinary conferences, and a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Anesthesiology
  • Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology or significant experience in congenital cardiac anesthesiology
  • Valid, unrestricted Florida medical license or eligibility
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a pediatric, congenital, cardiovascular, or academic anesthesiology program
