AHN System Chair, Department of Ophthalmology - Allegheny Health Network primarily located at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, seeks a highly skilled and compassionate physician leader with expertise in Ophthalmology. This position offers a System Chair leadership role in a growing and dynamic Ophthalmology program dedicated to clinical and translational research as well as exceptional patient care.
The Chair will work with other leaders to develop and implement strategy and processes for patient care. The Chair shall also maintain all current and future standards of care, both inpatient and outpatient, as well as the accreditations needed to assure service for the region. The Chair will assume responsibilities for research and development within the division and connect these activities to the larger goals of AHN. The successful candidate will be considered for the role of AHN System Chair, Department of Ophthalmology.
Highlights:
- Team Structure: In partnership with the Department Vice President, oversee 7 physicians and 2 optometrists
Duties:
- Ability to clearly articulate a vision, drive innovation, inspire others and set high expectations for achievement
- Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration by working effectively within a team-oriented environment and maintaining the highest level of customer service
- Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences
- Proactively identify issues and implement solutions
- Mentor and develop physician staff and team
- Participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows
- Contribute to research activity within the department, including investigator-initiated trials, cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials, laboratory investigation, and publication of research findings
- Develop the opportunity for resident and fellowship training programs
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
- Board-certified in ophthalmology
- Completion of an ACGME-approved Ophthalmology Residency
- Licensed in the state of Pennsylvania prior to employment
- Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong commitment to patient care and education

- Leadership experience in a clinical or research setting with management of employees
- Participation in clinical research
