Medical University of South Carolina
Job Highlights
MUSC Health is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as System Medical Director – Student Health Services. Based in Charleston, this opportunity allows you to lead the development of a scalable, student-centered care model designed to support colleges and universities throughout the state.
The System Medical Director will provide physician leadership across MUSC Health’s growing portfolio of campus and virtual-care partnerships. Working alongside academic leaders, campus stakeholders, and multidisciplinary clinical teams, this physician will help define how student access is coordinated and provide high-quality care during a critical stage of their lives. The role spans primary care, reproductive and sexual health, behavioral health, counseling and psychiatry, sports medicine, and specialty-care navigation.
This is an ideal next step for a physician who wants to expand their impact beyond a single practice or campus. The selected leader will develop systemwide strategy, guide the launch and growth of institutional partnerships, establish consistent clinical standards, strengthen referral pathways, and advance quality, access, utilization, and satisfaction goals. The position also offers the opportunity to recruit, mentor, and support physicians, advanced practice providers, counselors and allied health professionals as the program grows.
The strongest candidates will bring a collaborative leadership style, a passion for young-adult health, and the ability to build trusted relationships across complex academic environments. Prior experience in student health, college health, integrated care, adolescent or young-adult medicine, medical directorship, or program leadership will be especially valuable.
For the right physician, this role offers a rare combination: the opportunity to shape an emerging statewide model, lead meaningful innovation within an academic health system, and improve access to comprehensive care for students across South Carolina. Enjoy the flexibility to build your career in the location that best fits your lifestyle, with the opportunity to be based in either Charleston or Clemson, South Carolina.
