The roles:

At this time Island Health is looking for full-time general internists to join welcoming teams in Cowichan Valley, Campbell River, Comox Valley, Nanaimo and Port Alberni. These roles offer a mix of inpatient and outpatient care, with chances to focus on subspecialty interests and teaching. Find the best fit for your lifestyle and career aspirations!

 

Join a supportive team at Cowichan District Hospital which will open their new site in 2027! This new hospital is the first fossil fuel-free hospital in British Columbia and Canada’s first hospital to achieve Zero Carbon Building – Design™ certification from the Canada Green Building Council! Enjoy flexible schedule, diverse cases and teaching opportunities.

 

At Campbell River Hospital, you’ll provide true full-service community internal medicine at a 105-bed hospital. Responsibilities include consultative care, MRP for a 6-bed ICU, shared call duties, and participation in cardiology diagnostics. Interest in liver disease and involvement in a hospital-based multidisciplinary clinic is welcomed.

 

At Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, join the team serving central Vancouver Island. As the region’s primary referral center, this hospital offers 345 beds, a dedicated ICU, renal dialysis, and a cancer center, with strong links to interventional cardiology in Victoria. The role includes managing complex medical cases, providing general cardiac care, peri-operative consults, ECG interpretation and supervising treadmill/MIBI tests.

 

At Comox Valley Hospital, the medical community is a collegial group of physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists and midwives who share common values of medical excellence and a balanced lifestyle.  This balance includes great programs and facilities for families and the availability of outstanding year-round recreational activities.

 

At West Coast General Hospital in Port Alberni, you can join a close-knit group and provide full-spectrum general internal medicine including full intensive care and coronary care capabilities. Cardiac Stress testing, pulmonary function, 24-hour holter and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring capabilities are all available on site. On your days off, enjoy year-round outdoor adventures and a gateway to Canada’s surf hub.
