Lead Physician Role at Bay Area Free Clinic

The Order of Malta Clinic of Northern California is a Catholic free clinic providing primary care to the sick and the poor, without regard to religious affiliation. For 17 years it has operated entirely on donor support—the Clinic bills no patients, no insurance, and no government program.

The Clinic Lead Physician is the clinical anchor of the practice. Roughly 90% of your time is direct patient care—scheduled and walk-in visits, acute issues, chronic disease management, and treatment planning. The remainder is compensated administrative work: serving as a resource and internal consulting physician to a largely volunteer medical staff, leading clinical quality and chart review, and helping recruit and credential new providers.

The Clinic recently expanded from three to six exam rooms, added evening hours in 2025, and opened a Saturday clinic in January 2026—all to widen access for the patients it serves. This role reports to the Chair of the Medical Committee and works alongside the Clinic Manager.
