  • UMC Physicians is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Neurosurgeon with a focus on spine surgery to join a growing and well-established neurosurgery program in Lubbock, Texas. This opportunity offers the ability to quickly build a busy spine practice while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team serving a large referral region across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

    The practice supports a strong surgical volume and provides access to advanced technology, dedicated neurosurgical ICU support, and a collaborative academic environment through Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

    Practice Highlights

    • Established neurosurgery group consisting of 6 physicians, 6 advanced practice providers, and 13 support staff
    • Opportunity to rapidly develop a high-volume spine practice
    • Approximate case mix: 70% spine / 30% cranial
    • 225+ neurosurgical cases annually across the program
    • 1 clinic day per week
    • 2 operating room blocks per week
    • 2–3+ procedures per OR block
    • Approximately 20 patients per clinic day
    • Single hospital coverage at University Medical Center

    The program serves a large multi-county referral network across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, offering consistent surgical volume and complex case exposure.

    Technology and Clinical Resources

    The neurosurgery program is supported by advanced surgical and imaging technology, including:

    • Two second-generation O-Arm imaging systems
    • Three Medtronic S8 Stealth navigation workstations
    • Stryker cranial navigation platform
    • Pentero microscopes and Kinevo system with 5-ALA capability
    • Jackson surgical tables
    • TrueBeam Gamma Knife system
    • 24/7 intraoperative neuromonitoring
    • Dedicated neuromonitoring technologists with additional contract support
    • 10-bed Neuro ICU

    These resources support advanced spine and cranial procedures in a fully integrated neurosurgical environment.

    Call Structure

    • Trauma call shared among four neurosurgeons
    • Approximately one week of call every three weeks
    • Supported by an assigned advanced practice provider
    • Mix of trauma and assigned neurosurgical cases

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform complex spinal procedures, including degenerative spine, trauma, tumor, and deformity cases
    • Evaluate and treat patients with disorders of the spine and nervous system
    • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care
    • Collaborate with neurology, orthopedics, oncology, and rehabilitation specialists
    • Participate in multidisciplinary patient care planning
    • Contribute to resident education and academic initiatives in collaboration with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
    • Support the continued growth of the neurosurgery program and spine service line

    Qualifications

    • Board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery
    • Fellowship training in spine surgery preferred
    • Eligible for Texas medical licensure
