Locum Tenens Neurosurgeon – Virginia

Position Overview We are seeking a qualified Board Certified Neurosurgeon for an ongoing locum tenens assignment in Virginia. This is a call-only coverage opportunity to support the facility's neurosurgery needs while maintaining continuity of care. The assignment begins in June 2026 and continues on an as-needed basis through December 31, 2026 (potential for extension beyond this period).

Schedule & Call Details

• 24-hour call coverage (typically beeper/call-based, with possible in-house requirements for emergent cases).
• Call frequency and exact blocks to be determined based on facility needs (e.g., weekend, weekly, or periodic coverage).

Required Procedures & Scope

• General spine cases (e.g., decompression, fusion, discectomy, laminectomy).
• Minor cranial work (e.g., basic craniotomies, hematoma evacuation, shunt management).

Preferred Procedures

• Additional experience in general spine procedures is highly preferred.

Patient Population & Setting

• Primarily adult patients.
• Hospital-based coverage (inpatient consults, ER evaluations, and surgical intervention as needed).

Qualifications & Requirements

• Board Certified in Neurological Surgery (ABNS or AOBSNS).
• Fellowship training in Neurosurgery (required).
• Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license (or eligibility to obtain quickly; Virginia does not participate in the IMLC compact for expedited licensing, so a full application may be needed if not already licensed).
• Active DEA license (Virginia-specific preferred).
• Comfortable with bread-and-butter general neurosurgery in a community or regional hospital setting.
