The Thoracic Medical Oncology Division runs a dedicated clinic and full inpatient consult service. This position is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-level oncology practice and work in a multidisciplinary medical group with an emphasis on collegiality and teamwork.
Expert Multidisciplinary Team Includes:
- Medical Oncologists specialize in systemic therapies including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted treatments.
- Thoracic Surgeons perform advanced minimally invasive and robotic procedures for lung cancer resection.
- Interventional Pulmonologists utilize advanced bronchoscopic and minimally invasive techniques for diagnosis and airway management.
- Radiation Oncologists deliver precision radiation therapies tailored to individual tumor biology.
This position will report into Dr. Christine M. Lovly, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.S.C.O., Division Chief of Thoracic Medical Oncology and Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research.
Qualifications
- Deep clinical expertise in thoracic oncology, with recognition as a lung cancer content expert and demonstrated excellence in the management of complex thoracic malignancies (NSCLC, SCLC, and related diseases)
- Senior-level academic physician (Associate Professor or Full Professor) with the ability to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the division's clinical and academic reputation
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in thoracic oncology, with a strong record of building and growing clinical practice and contributing programmatically to disease-focused initiatives. Clinical trials experience highly preferred
- Proven mentorship experience supporting physicians, APPs, and trainees, including:
- Clinical guidance and case collaboration
- Leadership in clinical trials, research protocols, and abstract/manuscript development
- Active participation in program development, particularly in expanding and strengthening regional cancer programs
- Effective communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to partner closely with Division leadership to build and scale a comprehensive Lung Cancer Program in Orange County, including:
- Expanding clinical services across multiple OC sites
- Enhancing programmatic growth and multidisciplinary integration
- Supporting the delivery of high-quality, coordinated care across the regional network
- The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain or already hold an active California medical license

Compensation Details
$400K–$425K
Position Benefits: * Excellent benefits package, including a generous retirement contribution plan * Relocation assistance may be available * Base Salary Range: $400,000 - $425,000 (Associate to Full Professor level). *The range listed is exclusively for base compensation for full-time employment and does not include incentive compensation or benefits.
