Locum Tenens Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologist – New Orleans, LA | 7-Day Blocks, High-Acuity Inpatient

Position Overview:

We are seeking 1–2 board-certified Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiologists for ongoing locum tenens coverage in vibrant New Orleans, Louisiana. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-volume, academic inpatient heart failure/transplant service without any outpatient clinic responsibilities. Coverage is needed for 1–2 weeks per month with flexible scheduling.

Schedule & Responsibilities:

• 7 consecutive days (Monday–Monday) per block
• Daytime rounding: approximately 7 AM – 5 PM (occasionally until 7 PM for wrap-up); weekends often end earlier
• Two providers on service during daytime hours, working alongside a strong team of five APPs
• 24/7 call coverage during your block (primarily from home)
  • Fellows handle initial calls and triage
  • Escalation to attending only as needed
  • Rare need to return to hospital overnight
• Night call responsibilities include calls from fellows and occasional physician-to-physician transfers via the transfer center
• Comfort managing remote admissions through the transfer center
• Active teaching role with fellows, residents, and medical students in an academic environment
• Patient population: Pre-transplant, LVAD, post-transplant, and other complex, high-acuity heart failure cases

Requirements

• ABIM Board-Certified in Cardiovascular Disease
• Completion of an Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology fellowship
• Clean background and no open malpractice claims (required for temporary privileges)
• Comfortable with high-acuity inpatient management and teaching in an academic setting

Credentialing & Start Date

• Temporary privileges available for qualified candidates who can start prior to September (typically 30–45 days)
• Clean background required for temp privileges; no pending cases for full privileges
